THE PLAYERS TO HOST 9 TO 5 THE MUSICAL
Sarasota, February 1, 2013 – The Players Theatre is proud to have the area’s premiere of “9 to 5”. Based on the 21st Century Fox hit movie, about friendship, colleagues, and revenge. The story revolves around three working ladies: Violet Newstead (played by Nancy Denton), Doralee Rhodes (played by Alana Opie), and Judy Bernly (played by Eve Caballero) who are tired of working for their lecherous boss Franklin Hart, Jr. (played by George Naylor). The fireworks start when the girls team up and devise a plan to take over the company. This sassy musical features music and lyrics by Dolly Parton and book by Patricia Resnick.
Jared Walker is pulling triple duty acting as the Director, Choreographer, and Musical Director. Newcomer Ken Mooney makes the movie come to life on the stage through his designs for both set and the costumes with the assistance of projection designer Jerry Chambless. Mike Wood lends his talent for Lighting Design and John C. Reynolds adds the final touches with his scenic designs.
“Finding a cornerstone musical that ‘sets the tone’ for the season is difficult and challenging” said Jeffery Kin, Artistic Director. “However, once I saw that “9 to 5” was available, there was no doubt in my mind that it was the show for us! A fun story with great characters and a score that makes you want to cheer…now that’s the show for us!”
Tickets are $25 for adults and $12 for students.
