The Players Studio has classes for children as young as three years old through adult. There is a variety of classes offering instruction in Acting, Singing, and Dancing for all levels of experience. We also offer a variety of workshops to refine your skills.

 

ACTING

Youth Acting (ages 8-12)

• A class to help students develop characters incorporating improvisation and games, while enhancing concentration and memorization skills.

 

Youth Intermediate Acting (ages 8-12)

• This class takes students to the next level developing characters, relationships, and environments from written sources. Students must have prior acting experience.

 

Teen Acting (ages 13-17)

• A scene study class to help students develop believable characters by exploring backgrounds, motivations, and emotions.

 

FUN-damentals of Acting (ages 50 and up)

• This class for adults will cover theatre etiquette, basic acting technique, improvisation, building a character, make-up, analyzing a script, monologues, and scene study. Classes will focus on creating and fostering a low-risk environment, where individualism, creativity and self-expression are welcomed and challenged. Homework will be assigned.

coordination, flexibility and agility.

• A fun way to incorporate fitness, dance and fun for anyone seeking to keep fit through movement. Class starts with a warm up, moves on to fun combinations that strengthen the body and the mind and finishes with a soothing cool down to stretch and relax.

 

Musical Theatre Performance Class (ages 50-up)

• This fun and active class will teach you musical theatre performances from Broadway productions. Be ready to work hard!

GROUPS

THE PLAYERS KIDS

• Annual auditions for The Players Kids will be held Saturday, September 8, 2012 at 9:00am under the direction of Steven Vincent and Berry Ayers.
• The Players Kids represent The Players Studio at community events, public appearances, and in a staged production. Boys and girls ages 7 – 17 should come prepared with a short (1 minute) song, and wear comfortable clothing for the dance portion. Upon acceptance into The Players Kids, students must register in a minimum of 1 class as well as attend regularly scheduled Saturday morning rehearsals. A $100.00 annual fee is required. Limited absences are allowed.
• The Players Kids 2012-2013 will be presenting Disney’s The Little Mermaid on our stage May 18th & 19th, 2013

 

SARASOTA SILVER STARS

• Director/Musical Director Berry Ayers, Choreographer Michelle Teyke
• Join this active and vibrant group! The Sarasota Silver Stars, a 50+ performing troupe, represent The Players Theatre at community events, public appearances, a play reading on The Players Cabaret stage, and a staged production in March 2013. This troupe is an outlet for performers to gain camaraderie, support, and have the chance to express themselves theatrically.
• A $10.00 weekly rehearsal fee is required.
• Rehearsals will take place Monday & Thursday from 1pm – 3pm
• September 6, 2012 – March 17, 2013

 

PRIVATE LESSONS

• Private lessons in acting, dance, voice, and piano are available upon request.
• One hour $50 / Half hour $30.

Audition Workshop (ages 7-15 )

• Planning on auditioning for Annie or any other production? Improve your audition skills learning a monologue, a song, and a variety of dance routines in a short time as if auditioning for directors. Tap and Theatre Jazz combinations are the focus to show off quick learning ability and polished performance levels.

Fractured Fairy Tales (ages 8-12)

• Instructors:BerryAyers & Steven Vincent
• Wednesday 5:00-6:00pm
• This unique workshop takes creativity to the next level. Students are given the opportunity to imagine, rewrite and perform a “fractured fairy tale.” Students choose to either combine two fairy tales together, or set an existing tale in another place. Using improvisation, vocal production, and stage movement to choreograph an original dance, they learn to develop a well rounded character and grace the stage in a final performance during the last class. Will Cinderella meet Hansel and Gretel, or will Rumpelstiltskin fall down the rabbit hole? Don’t miss this creative fun workshop.

Songwriting Workshop (ages 12-17)

• Wednesday 5:00-6:00pm
• This workshop will teach you how to compose songs or polish something already written, no matter what the genre of music. Specific focus will be on lyric and melody writing, chord development, song structure, tempo and performance. This workshop is designed to help cultivate and refine writing skills, as well as strengthen creative methods of composition. Playing an instrument is not a requirement. Final workshop includes a performance of songs written in class.

WORKSHOPS for ADULTS

Adult Acting Workshop

• Instructor: Pam Wiley
• Tuesday 5:30-7:00pm & Saturday 2:00-3:30pm
• These workshops will improve your audition skills and experience and help you develop believable characters. You will learn to analyze and perform scenes. Individual in-depth coaching is at the heart of these classes. A choice of monologues, scenes, and reading materials will be available, or you may provide your own on which to work. We work hard, we grow and we have fun.

Beginner-Intermediate Playwriting

• Instructor: Jeffery Kin
• Wednesday 5:30-7:00pm
• This is an excellent class for fans of live theatre who have the desire to write for the stage. We will focus on play structure, understanding what actors need, and where inspiration comes from. Students can bring in ideas for plays, but there will be specific assignments given to help understand all the elements of play-writing.

Advanced Playwriting

• This course is for anyone who has had a previous playwriting workshop or class. Students are encouraged to bring in pieces that are “works in progress”, share completed plays, or even work through a new idea for the stage. All the while fine-tuning and heightening their skills as writers for the theatre.

Intense Tap Workshop

• Instructor: Kay Siebold
• Spring Break Special 5:30-7:00pm
• Learn to tap fast with the Debbi Dee Style! This workshop is for experienced tap dancers only. Dancers should know their basic steps as well as pulls and draws. Experience the joy and exhilaration of getting speed out of your steps. You will learn warm ups, combinations, and skills that will help you achieve speed and clarity. A great way to burn calories!
