Calling all Playwrights!
“The Plays The Thing” Play Writing Contest
The 10th Annual New-Play Competition is open to Gulf Coast residents over the age of 18 from now until April 1, 2010. A committee of judges will select a minimum of six plays to be presented during the week of July 26-31, 2010, at The Players, 838 North Tamiami Trail, Sarasota. One of the winning plays will be selected as “Best of Series” and presented as a full stage production at The Players in 2011.
Winning Selections
At least six entries will be presented in rehearsed readings at The Players from July 26-31, 2010, at 7:30 P.M. Finalists will be posted here on May 15, 2010.
• Playwright must be available for, and help arrange, at least two rehearsals and attend the reading.
• Authors are encouraged to do rewrites up until curtain time.
• Playwrights are responsible for supplying updated and corrected
copies of their script to their director and cast.
• Plays not following proper guidelines or meeting the requirements
will be disqualified.
• Entrant must be a resident of the Gulf Coast area (defined for this contest as extending from Tampa/Clearwater to Fort Myers) and must be over 18 years of age.
• Full-length plays are preferred but one-acts will be considered (no musicals).
• Maximum cast size is 8, and cast doubling is permitted.
• Manuscripts must be typed and bound, with playwrights’ biographies included.
• Author (and collaborator, if any) may submit only one script at no charge, with a
$10 charge (check made payable to The Players) for each additional script.
• The Play must not have had a prior production, although those work-shopped before
non-paying audiences are acceptable.
• Entries must not have been previously submitted to The Players.
• Musicals are not accepted.
• Submitted plays (copies only) will not be returned. Electronically transmitted entries will not be accepted.
• The Players Theatre is not responsible for lost or misplaced plays.
