THE PLAYERS ANNOUNCES ITS
2010 “THE PLAY’S THE THING” WINNER

Sarasota – The Players Theatre is pleased to announce Bernie Yanelli as the winner of the 2010 The Play’s The Thing, New Play Reading Festival.  His play, “Undaunted” chronicles the tumultuous life and times of Alexander Hamilton.

Yanelli teaches history and economics at Saint Stephen's Episcopal School in Bradenton, FL. Prior to becoming a teacher; he spent twenty years as an international business executive. “Undaunted” is his second full-length play. His first play, “Casting Shadows”, was a co-winner of The Play's the Thing competition in 2007.  Bernie also serves on the Board of Directors of Theatre Odyssey, Inc.

The Play’s the Thing is an annual competition of local playwrights.  After six finalists are selected by a panel of judges, their plays are presented in reading form in front of a live audience.  This allows for constructive feedback.  The audience and the judges select the best play, which goes on to become fully produced in next season’s Summer Sizzler Series.
“Each play had its highs and lows,” says Jeffery Kin, The Players Artistic Director.

“I believe every person involved in the process was challenged, entertained, and in the long run, educated by this process.  The judges picks, and that of the audience, all pointed towards this new play by Mr. Yanelli as the clear choice.”

The other finalists were: Dale Moore, “Murder in Larkin Hall”; Bob Griffiths, “Mama”; Marvin Albert, “Another One Loose in the World”; Jack Fornier, “The State of Tennessee; and Jenny Beres, “Thick as Thieves”.
