Bank of America Client Foundation, Bank of America, N.A., Trustee Awards The Players Centre for Performing Arts with $10,000 Grant Supporting The Players Follies Program

The Players Centre is thrilled to receive a $10,000 grant from Bank of America Client Foundation, Bank of America, N.A. Trustee for support of The Players Follies, a performance program for ages 50 and above designed to aid in the health and well-being of our older population. Grant funds will be used to keep the program free of cost for all members, removing the financial barrier to participation and further improving the physical and mental state of our senior citizens.

Participants meet three hours weekly at The Players Studio, working with trained professionals to hone their skills in acting, singing, and dancing. They are taught songs with emphasis on breathing, pitch, and memorization. Members work on choreography which improves fitness, stamina, and balance. Memorizing lines and songs helps with memory retention and lucidity. Studies have shown that participating in the arts decreases anxiety, loneliness, boredom, and stress while increasing cognitive benefits including improvements in memory, comprehension, and problem-solving. All positive effects of access to the arts for seniors.
