Designer/COntractor job descriptions

Sound Technicians & Designers
Design, install, and operate all sound elements for productions, including sound effects, microphones, and special effects. Work closely with directors and stage managers to ensure clear, balanced audio throughout performances.Must have working knowledge of Qlab, Yamaha QL5 64 Channel Sound Board, working with live instruments, and theater sound design.

  • Experience with live theater sound design and operation
  • Proficiency with QLab or similar playback systems
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and familiarity with wireless mic systems
  • Ability to mix live sound for musicals and plays
  • Possesses working knowledge of Yamaha QL5 64 Channel Sound Board

Lighting Designers
Design and implement the lighting plot for each production, including mood, transitions, and cue programming. Collaborate with the director and technical team to support storytelling and ensure a polished visual experience. Working knowledge of Qlab and Etc Ion Lighting Console.

  • Proven experience designing lighting for live theater
  • Proficiency with Etc Ion or similar lighting software and control boards
  • Understanding of lighting plots, Litwrite – or comparable, cueing, and color theory
  • Ability to adapt design to venue resources and budget and rep plot.
  • Provide examples of work.

Carpenters
Build, install, and strike scenic elements according to designer plans and production timelines. Must be comfortable using standard tools and working within a collaborative team to ensure safety and quality.

  • Experience in scenic construction for theater
  • Knowledge of standard tools, materials, and safety protocols
  • Ability to read and follow build plans and technical drawings
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work under production deadlines
  • Provide examples of work.

Music Directors
Lead all musical elements of a production, including musical rehearsals, vocal coaching and conducting live performances with a band. Must be able to play piano/keyboard and Play the length of a show unless tracks are being utilized.

  • Strong sight reading piano/keyboard skills and ability to lead rehearsals and live performances
  • Experience teaching vocals to performers of various skill levels
  • Ability to coordinate with the director and choreographer for musical cohesion
  • Background in musical theater preferred, but not required

Scenic Painters
Bring scenic designs to life through detailed painting and texturing techniques. Work from renderings and scenic models to help create immersive environments that match each productions style and tone.

  • Experience with theatrical scenic painting techniques (faux finishes, texture, aging) and airbrushing
  • Ability to interpret designer renderings and replicate styles
  • Comfortable working at various scales and on large set pieces
  • Strong sense of detail, color mixing, and texture
  • Maintain clean tools
  • Provide examples of work.

Choreographers
Create original choreography suited to the skill level of each cast while aligning with the vision of the director and music director. Responsible for teaching, refining, and running dance rehearsals as needed.

  • Background in musical theater or concert dance with choreography experience
  • Ability to create original movement for performers of all skill levels
  • Strong teaching and communication skills
  • Works well in collaboration with directors and music directors

Directors
Lead the creative vision for productions, overseeing casting, rehearsals, and overall artistic direction. Collaborate with the production team to ensure a unified approach to storytelling, design, and performance quality.

  • Experience directing full theatrical productions
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to interpret scripts and lead a cohesive creative team
  • Familiarity with both adult and youth performers is a plus
  • Ability to be creative to make shows successful in our intimate, in-the-round theater

Costume Designers
Design, source, and manage all costume elements for assigned productions. Work closely with the Costume Shop manager, director, and creative team to develop character looks that align with the show’s concept, time period, and aesthetic. Responsible for fittings, alterations, and coordinating with wardrobe staff or dressers if needed.

  • Experience designing costumes for live theater productions
  • Strong knowledge of costume history, fabrics, and construction techniques
  • Ability to work within budget and meet deadlines
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills
  • Sewing and alteration skills are a plus but not required

All contractor positions are offered on a show-by-show basis. Contractors are expected to attend all scheduled production meetings and rehearsals relevant to their role. As part of our commitment to creating a safe and professional environment for all performers, staff, and students, contractors are subject to background checks prior to hire.
