The 20th year of The Players New Play festival is upon us and the co-coordinators, Amanda Schlachter and Jeffery Kin, along with a team of judges, have selected five plays to be shared via Zoom August 9 through 13.
These plays are the brightest in a season of strong showings from our area playwrights. Congratulations to:
Spiritual Bliss By Stephen Cooper
Just Like Stealing By Douglas Gearhart
The Mantle by Jalex Scott
Locked Inside By Morgan Cox
O.U.T. By Derek Sikkema
“Each season the plays we receive run the gamut from A-Z of playwriting, and this season is no different,” says co-coordinator and Artistic Director for The Players Jeffery Kin. “The strange year we have all experienced because of Covid has resulted in some pretty polished plays from our seasoned area writers, plus some surprise new works from new voices that definitely need to be heard.”
Check back in the next few weeks to purchase tickets for this online event featuring readings of the finalists by local performers with the guidance of a local director!
“It was a joy to read such a wide range of plays with such varied perspectives,” says coordinator Amanda Schlachter. “Some moved me, some made me laugh and others caused me to pause and think.”
Keep your eyes open for our audition announcements, and don’t forget to buy your tickets to see these brand new shows.
